The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.
The School of Engineering at the University of California, Merced invites applications from exceptional scholars and teachers at the Assistant Professor (tenure track) level in Materials Science and Engineering. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, pertinent to developing our new Materials Science and Engineering Program and to promoting the success of the University of California'a newest campus. The research area within Materials Science and Engineering is open; individuals with research interests in the development of industrial-scale nanomaterials synthesis, processing, or device fabrication methods are particularly encouraged to apply. General areas of research interest also include nanostructured materials, biomaterials, and energy materials.

| Qualifications: |
|
Applicants must have earned or be within six months of completing a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering or closely related discipline and demonstrate a commitment to teaching, research and service. They must have a record of achievement appropriate to the Assistant Professor rank as evidenced by publications, professional recognition and the potential for extramural funding. The position will be available as early as July 1, 2008.
