The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. A position for a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Linda S. Hirst is available in the Physics graduate group in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of California, Merced.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in physics with experience in soft matter physics or biophysics, ideally with experience working with lipids. The project will involve research in lipid biophysics, phase behavior of model membrane systems and membrane proteins, experience with fluid AFM, fluorescence microscopy and synchrotron x-ray diffraction will all be valuable for the candidate.
The position will potentially involve travel to Lawrence Berkeley Lab in Berkeley, CA. for synchrotron xray scattering experiments and to the UK for a collaboration with the biology dept. at Bristol University.
Funding is available for two years, renewable on a yearly basis with the potential for further employment should funding become available. The position is available immediately and will be open until filled.
