The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.
The School of Natural Sciences invites applications from exceptional scholars and teachers for one position at either the Full/Associate (tenured) level or the Assistant (tenure-track) level in Applied Mathematics.
We are seeking exceptionally qualified candidates with expertise in modeling, applied analysis, scientific computing, or related areas. Special attention will be paid to applicants who participate in interdisciplinary research, and who will contribute to developing the Applied Mathematics curriculum and to one or more of the campus research initiatives in the Natural Sciences, Engineering and/or Social Sciences.

| Qualifications: |
|
A PhD in Applied Mathematics or a related scientific field, demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, and strong interpersonal communication skills are required. For tenure-track Assistant Professor candidates, postdoctoral research and teaching experience are preferred. Tenure-track Assistant Professor applicants should arrange to have four letters of recommendation, at least one of which must address teaching, sent by the letter writers to applied_math_2012@ucmerced.edu, directly prior to the application deadline.
