Description:   The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. A position for a postdoctoral scholar is available in the group of Assistant Professor Christine Isborn, Chemistry group at UC Merced. The position will involve simulating the generation, evolution and fate of electronic excitations in molecules, condensed phases, and nanoscale materials with first principles methods such as time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) and nonadiabatic dynamics.

Duties include running calculations using standard and non-standard ab initio and QM/MM codes; modifying and developing code as needed using Fortran, C, C++, and python; optimizing code for maximum performance; developing scripts for analyzing data; writing journal articles on developed methods, calculations, and results; communicating effectively with colleagues and mentoring graduate students; attending conferences to present the work.

Qualifications:   Candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Applied math, Engineering, or similar disciplines are encouraged to apply. The abilitiy to communicate effectively with colleagues and experience with quantum chemistry, and molecular and nonadiabatic dynamics, coding and scripting languages is highly desirable.
Salary:   Based on an annual full-time salary of $39,264 and commensurate with experience
