Position Code:   ASNS4754A
Status:   Open
Description:   The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

A postdoctoral position is available in the research group of David F. Kelley to utilize time-resolved optical spectroscopy and other optical techniques to study the photophysics of semiconductor nanocrystals (CdSe and related). The position involves nanocrystal synthesis, optical measurements, and spectroscopic modeling. The successful candidate will synthesize nanocrystals with a variety of compositions, sizes, shapes, and surface chemistries, measure their absorption, luminescence and time-resolved spectra, and computationally model these spectra to determine the exciton relaxation dynamics, charge transfer rates and other photophysical parameters.

The University of California, Merced is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer with a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. The University is supportive of dual career couples.
Qualifications:   Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in physical chemistry or a closely related field and an excellent publication record. Applicants should have experience in semiconductor nanocrystal synthesis and/or laser spectroscopy and a fundamental understanding of solid state and/or molecular spectroscopy and photophysics.

Salary:   Based on an annual full-time salary of $39,264 and commensurate with experience

Closing Date:   Open until filled

To Apply:   Interested applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter 2) curriculum vitae 3) a list of three references with contact information including mailing address, phone number and e-mail address.
