Description:   The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

The School of Engineering invites applications from distinguished scholars for a position at the Assistant (tenure-track) or Associate/Full (tenured) Professor level in Bioengineering. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing faculty in Bioengineering at the newest University of California campus, and to contribute to long-term program building. Bioengineering faculty are housed in a new engineering building and faculty are part of a highly collaborative research environment. Research focus for this position is rather broad including: biological modeling, biosensors, tissue engineering, and preclinical biomedical imaging. However, qualified applicants in other bioengineering research areas will be also considered.

Qualifications:   BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: For Assistant Professor position: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Bioengineering or other relevant field (preferred by July 1, 2014, must be conferred by December 31, 2014); demonstrated record of research and teaching.

For Associate or Full Professor position: a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Bioengineering or other relevant field; demonstrated record of research; demonstrated record of publications; demonstrated experience in university teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and a demonstrated record of extramural funding.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: For Assistant Professor position: demonstrated potential for excellence in research; applicants for the Assistant Professor position are expected to develop externally funded research programs.

For Associate or Full Professor position: demonstrated excellence in innovative research; a strong record of publications; demonstrated excellence in university teaching of courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Ph.D. in a relevant field and exemplary research, publication, and teaching commensurate with a faculty appointment at the University of California at the appropriate level.

The candidate is expected to establish a successful and independent research program. Competitive candidates must also be able to teach bioengineering courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
 
Salary:   Negotiable, based on University of California Salary Scales
