Description:   The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

The School of Engineering invites applications from distinguished scholars and teachers for one position at the Assistant (tenure-track) level in Biological/Bio-Materials. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: materials for tissue engineering and drug delivery, cell-material interactions, stimuli-responsive bioscaffolding, 3D bio-fabrication technologies, organ-on-a-chip, synthetic biology, biomanufacturing, and/or bio-inspired green materials synthesis. This new position will complement existing research efforts in regenerative medicine and theranostics, cell mechanics, matrix/ECM/stem cell interactions, nanomaterials fabrication for biosensing and energy applications, and biomimetic materials. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing faculty in Materials Science and Engineering at a new University of California campus, and to contribute to long-term program building. Materials Science and Engineering will be in a new engineering building and faculty will be part of a highly collaborative research environment.

Qualifications:   Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering and/or Bioengineering or a closely related discipline and a record of teaching, research, and service appropriate to rank. The candidate is expected to establish a successful and independent program of high quality research. Competitive candidates must also have the ability to teach Materials Science and Engineering courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
 
Salary:   Negotiable, based on University of California Salary Scales
