The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. The Financial Specialist provides financial and administrative support for the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts and is responsible for assigned account reconciliation of general ledgers, preparation of monthly faculty reports of expenses and funding availability while assisting SSHA faculty with understanding their accounts and resolving accounting issues while ensuring compliance with UC Policies and Procedures. The Financial Specialist will also be responsible for creating and updating internal faculty grant spending projections and assisting in the fiscal closure process. The financial assignments are of moderate scope, requires analysis and review of a variety of factors and multiple sources.

Qualifications:   • Associate degree in related area or bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Has knowledge of accounting function and assignments.
• Has ability to gather, organize, and perform basic accounting related analysis.
• Requires ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally.
• Knowledge of financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office and common desktop/web applications.
