Description:  

The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With close to 6,200 students, UC Merced has planned for additional student growth until we reach an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. With undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs, plans for a future medical school program, partnerships and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving, requiring talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff.

Persons hired to work in a limited term position generally fill short-term assignment(s), ranging from less than one month to six months and may be full or part-time.
Multiple assignments for any employee hired from this pool shall not exceed 1,000 hours in a 12-month period.

Under supervision, provide administrative support and front line contact to a school, division or department of the University of California Merced. Respond to public requests for general information by phone, electronic mail, and in person; schedule use of conference rooms and audio-visual and other related equipment; retrieve, sort and distribute mail; maintain reception area and supply room; coordinate maintenance of office equipment; prepare order for department supplies and services; prepare forms, labels, documents and spreadsheets from copy; copy documents; assist with filing and records maintenance; maintain a positive telephone manner and is overtly helpful in meeting customer needs. Other duties as may be assigned.

This position is reopened every six months so please re-apply if you remain interested in the position. This position will close on July 31, 2013 and will be reopened as STGC1160M.

 
Qualifications:   Required:

•Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including use of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and standard business formats.
•Excellent computer skills and proficiency using MS Office suite.
•Skill to read, understand, interpret and apply policies, practices and procedures in the areas of organization and other business related activities (UC and campus preferred).
•Demonstrated organizational and project management skills including the ability to coordinate and prioritize a diverse workload, set and meet competing deadlines, and establish systems to effectively track projects and other information.
•Ability to maintain complete discretion, confidentiality, sensitivity and professional judgment.
•Strong customer service orientation; ability to respond effectively and in a business-like manner to questions or requests for service from individuals throughout the University.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Windows based computer programs, specifically MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and support multiple functions with fluctuating priorities.
