Description:  

The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With close to 6,200 students, UC Merced has planned for additional student growth until we reach an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. With undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs, plans for a future medical school program, partnerships and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving, requiring talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff.

This position is a Limited (temporary) Appointment. A limited appointment position is assigned to work for short periods of time ranging from less than one month to six months and may be full or part-time.

The Administrative Assistant must be able to provide assistance in a variety of areas such as managing complex calendars, preparation of materials for meetings, data entry, front line phone contact and basic office maintenance. Essential duties include oral and written communication, including use of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and standard business formats using Microsoft Office Suite applications. This position may also be project based such as large mailings or end of fiscal year processing. This is a limited appointment and was created to assist various departments when additional clerical and administrative support for their unit is needed.

This posting will remain open for six months; it will then be closed and reopened under a new position number. Once a position has been closed, you will need to re-apply to each new position to continue to be considered.

Qualifications:   Required:

Extensive business office, administrative, and word processing skills as well as fast and accurate data entry skills. Confidentiality a must. Experience and knowledge of MS package including: Miscrosft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential; including: excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading, and punctuation. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well independently and with others a must.

Special Conditions:

Fingerprinting may be required for some positions.
