The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With close to 6,200 students, UC Merced has planned for additional student growth until we reach an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. With undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs, plans for a future medical school program, partnerships and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving, requiring talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Admissions, this position represents the University of California especially UC Merced in providing direct student/parent services to targeted community college bound high school students. Works toward increasing UC admission eligibility and UC college-going rates from target program schools. Develops a strong relationship with high schools and community colleges, teachers, instructors, counselors, and administrators. Assists in the development of new strategies to deliver services and implement those strategies consistent with the goals and objectives of the Office of Admissions. Works with community based organizations, civic groups, and other student development program staff toward increasing UC eligibility, UC Merced enrollment, and overall college-going rates. Develops student academic plans instrumental in increasing UC eligibility and matriculation rates. Helps create an awareness of the University of California Merced and recruits new students for the campus. Assists in the implementation of various programs, projects and activities in coordination with UC campuses and Office of the President staff. The incumbent at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Qualifications:   • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent experience/training.

• Basic knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.

• Basic knowledge of UC Merced, and the ability to explain basic information to prospective applicants by familiarity of UC admission policies and procedures.

• Basic knowledge of academic programs, including curricula and admissions requirements at UC Merced. Maintains records and files on student contacts by utilizing computers and data base programs.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Ability to coordinate campus visits for students, parents, and educators, assist in planning outreach activities and utilize computers in preparing correspondence and reports.

• Available to work evenings, weekdays and some weekends.
