Description:  

The University of California, Merced is the newest campus of the ten-campus University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. The Business Systems Analyst III, as part of the Business Intelligence (BI) Team, will work collaboratively with business units and technical teams to gather reporting requirements, develop functional specifications, and facilitate adoption of BI applications and reporting tools (providing report development training, BI expertise, and user support). The Business Systems Analyst also will facilitate the development of the campus’data warehouse (DW), an integrated decision-support system (e.g., reporting, data marts, dimensional models, cubes, dashboards, scorecards), that uses BI and other programming tools.

This position also will provide support for the current data and reporting environment in the Office of Institutional Planning & Analysis (IPA), helping to transition to the new DW environment.

Qualifications:   • Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in information systems, computer science, or related field, plus minimum of three years of programming and/or SQL experience (multiple languages).

• Experience in higher education environment preferred.

• Minimum of five years of experience supporting the design and specification of data presentation and decision support systems with deep knowledge of reporting, analytics, and trending.

• Experience integrating data from multiple source systems.

• Knowledge and experience in data warehousing (ETL, ODS, Star Schemas, OLAP, Dimensional modeling, Balanced scorecards, etc.).

• Oracle or other relational database experience, as well as SQL/PLSQL.

• Experience with report building (preferably Cognos).

• Experience using DDL and DML, Oracle tools preferred.

• Business/systems analyst experience, including working with users to identify information systems and reporting needs, identifying potential solutions, designing, developing, documenting, testing and maintaining databases/applications.

• Ability to transform business need into a visual representation; ability to verify and reconcile data for accuracy and consistency.

• The Business Systems Analyst III must be able to communicate effectively, lead or facilitate meetings, identify potential solutions and take initiative, work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, and handle sensitive data professionally.

• Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding privacy of data highly desirable.

• Knowledge of higher education systems, especially Sungard-Banner preferred.

• Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently and work within deadlines.
