The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

To provide remedial and/or supplemental instruction to individuals and /or small groups of students in order to aid them in the development of their academic and social skills through the Literacy Program and Math and English homework completion.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
• promote and stimulate program participation relating to literacy;
• guide members through learning homework skills and increasing their knowledge of Math and English.
• register new members and participate in their club orientation process;
• provide guidance and role modeling to members through their educational process.

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer). Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions: instruct: and advise/counsel.

Qualifications:   High School diploma or GED
• Experience in working with children
• Knowledge of youth development
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
• Ability to deal with the general public
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth relating to literacy
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment

Frequently stand and walk; sit for extended periods; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination in order to participate in a full range of recreational activities; ability to lift material weighing up to 50 pounds; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; excellent verbal communication; use of office equipment, computer and various software/hardware including employer specific software, telephone, calculator, copiers and FAX machines.
