Description:  

The Calvin Bright Success Center is searching for student leaders to be part of the New Student Orientation Team for summer 2016. The position of Orientation Leader/Peer Advisor (OL) is one that allows students to make a real contribution to UC Merced and to new students' success. OLs provide a student perspective on the college experience in a way that reflects their role as representatives of the university. In helping new students and families make a positive transition into UC Merced, OLs have an opportunity to become some of the best informed and most involved students on campus.

Participate fully in paid training sessions. Act as a representative of UC Merced to new students and parents. Discuss experiences of academic and social life at UC Merced. Explain academic opportunities and procedures. Aid in course scheduling and registration. Assist with Orientation check-in and registration process. Guide campus tours. Lead group activities such as icebreakers and group discussions. Collaborate with other OLs to create a campus life presentation. Acquaint students with campus buildings and services. Assist in preparation of Orientation activities and materials. Assist the Orientation Staff as needed. Orientation Leader positions begin in April with staff development and a staff retreat and continue through June, July and August with increased hours. Possible additional hours fall and spring semesters for new student transition programming.

Terms of Employment:
-Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
-Orientation Leaders must be available for small group staff development sessions starting in April continuing with event preparation and orientation sessions May 25th through August 1st.
-Must be available to from early morning to early evening on the following dates: June 28, 30, July 7, 9, 12, 14, 19, 21, 23, 26. (Note 7/9 and 7/23 are Saturday Orientations) Exceptions will not be made, except in the case of unplanned, unforeseeable, unavoidable hardship.
-Must provide own housing.
