Description:  


The mission of the Calvin E. Bright Success Center is to provide academic advising and learning support services which empower students to be successful in their academic and personal development. The BSC aims to provide academic
assistance to students through a collaborative effort campus-wide, with the goal of helping students achieve academic success,overcome barriers, reach exciting milestones in their academic work, and develop leadership skills.

LEAD Peer Instructors help with the implementation of USTU 010 Freshman Success Course.

Duties comprise:
o Reading and re-reading the assigned pages in the On Course book
o Attending weekly USTU 10 class
o Planning and leading weekly meetings with Peer Instructors
o Facilitating class discussions and Peer Instructor lesson plans
o Attending a weekly lesson plan preparation meeting with the co-instructors of the course
o Commenting on students' weekly essays
o Attending weekly meetings with supervisor
o Preparing lesson plans, activities, and supplies during office hours
o General collaboration with BSC staff to develop and sustain the course
*Must be available for ONE or more of the class times each week of the fall semester:

USTU times and dates still to be determined.

Qualifications:   • Sophomore standing or above
• Good academic standing
• Experience on campus in a leadership or mentor position such as Orientation Leader, Tutor, Resident Assistant, Peer Mentor, or Peer Educator strongly preferred
• Ability to adapt to different personalities and changing work responsibilities, as the course develops
• Ability to command a group of freshmen and keep them on task
• Ability work independently and with colleagues to prepare course materials, lessons and readings
• Interest in supporting freshman success
• Sensitivity to diverse views, learning styles, proficiency, and cultures in the classroom
• Prior experience working as BSC or Orientation staff member is strongly preferred
