Description:  

The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

Under the Bright Success Center, the Fiat Lux Scholars Program serves a select cohort of underrepresented students at UC Merced. The Fiat Lux Academic Scholar responsibilities include:
• Organizing and facilitating Fiat Lux Study Sessions
• Accurately report and maintain student’s study session time /attendance
• Ability to use iCatCard Web Services
• Facilitate small study groups for specific courses
• Enforce Study Session Policies
• Plan and coordinate Student Socials, in addition create Bulletin Boards as a team with academic scholars
• Serve as a liaison between Fiat Lux Scholars and the Program Staff
• Advocate for the interests of Fiat Lux Scholars
• Engage Scholars in different ways to build relationships and encourage participation in fullfilling Fiat Lux requirements
• Comply with UC Merced principles and maintain good conduct on/off the UC Merced campus
• Other duties as assigned

 
Qualifications:   • Junior or third-year standing, Senior or fourth year Standing
• Cumulative and/or Semester GPA of at least 2.75
• Good student conduct standing with the University
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of diverse students including first-generation students
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent and sound judgment
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
• Ability to collaborate and work as member of a team
• Effective interpersonal communication skills, including active listening skills
• Ability to use office equipment such as a laptop computer, printer/scanner/copier, projector and fax
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point
• Ability to use Mac/PC operating systems
• Must be able to multi-task and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Must be available to attend Required Training: August 7th-18th, 2017 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
• Must be available to attend two weekly meetings during the 2017-2018 academic year (TBD)
