Description:   The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

The Sierra Nevada Research Institute (SNRI), a research unit of the University of California at Merced, has established the Sierra Nevada Research Station, which is a part of the UC Natural Reserve System (NRS). The Yosemite Field Station (YFS), located at Yosemite National Park, is the hub of the Research Station. The Sequoia Field Station (SFS), located at Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park, is under development.

This position reports to the SNRI Director and is responsible for operations, programs, administration, and further development of the Research Station. The Station Manager: 1) designs and implements programs, policies, procedures and budgets for the Research Station, in cooperation with the Faculty Reserve Manager and others; 2) serves as the primary liaison between the Parks, Research Station users, and other UC Merced faculty and staff; 3) facilitates research, education, and outreach programs based out of the Field Station; 4) provides daily management of the YFS, and general oversight of SFS operations; 5) coordinates Field Station operations and maintenance activities with UC Merced’s Facilities Management staff; and 6) enhances Research Station facilities and programs through extramural proposals and development activities, in cooperation with the Faculty Reserve Manager and others, 7) carries out independent, extramurally funded research/scholarship.

Qualifications:   Requirements include strong skills and knowledge to: 1) engage and collaborate with a diverse set of constituents; and 2) plan, organize, administer, and report on programs and operations. A Master's degree in a relevant area is required; a Ph.D. degree and experience with field research are preferred.
Salary:   Negotiable, based on the University of California Salary Scales
