The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. The Java Applications Developer uses skills as a seasoned, experienced applications programming professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Responsibility for both Java application development and identity management development.
The developer designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates complex programs for functional areas. Analyzes and maintains existing programs or works to formulate logic for new systems. Devises logic procedures, prepares flowcharting, performs coding, performs data analysis and tests/debugs programs through the application of professional programming concepts.

Qualifications:   • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training.
• Required thorough knowledge of applications programming and the Java programming language. Must be skilled in at least one enterprise Java framework such as Enterprise Java Beans, Hibernate, Java Persistence API, Java Server Faces, or Spring. Must have knowledge of revision control systems such as subversion or git. Must be skilled in SQL based RDBMS systems such as Oracle and MySQL. Must be skilled working with Unix operating systems such as Linux and Solaris. Knowledge of identity management systems and practices is preferred. Knowledge of enterprise service bus software and message queue software is preferred, such as Apache ServiceMix and Apache ActiveMQ.
• Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs across the organization.
• Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT.
• Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, medication and implementation.
• Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
• Has ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
