The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. Supports Graduate Division's application development and reporting needs. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced applications programming professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Qualifications:   • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training.
• Requires thorough knowledge of applications programming and at least one object oriented language such as Java/Groovy or PHP programming language.
• Requires thorough knowledge of web applications development.
• Knowledge of at least one web development framework is preferred such a Grails, Zend Framework or Spring.
• Must have knowledge of revision control systems such as subversion or git.
• Must be skilled in SQL based RDBMS systems such as Oracle and MySQL.
• Must be skilled in designing and analyzing SQL schemas and writing moderate to complex SQL queries.
• Knowledge of PL/SQL preferred.
• Knowledge of reporting tools preferably Cognos.
• Knowledge of Unix operating systems preferred such as Linux or Solaris.
• Experience with the Ellucian Banner Student information system is highly desired.
• Experience in higher education is a plus.
• Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT.
• Knowledge of department processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of a reporting system is preferred such as Cognos Business intelligence.
• Knowledge of workflow and document management systems is preferred.
• Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation.
• Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs across the organization.
• Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
• Has ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
• Has skills needed to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
• Requires ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
• Must be self motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
• Must have advanced skills in web applications, web programming languages and object oriented programming concepts.
• Must be skilled in HTML and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of JavaScript framework such as jQuery is preferred.
• Knowledge of web services, JSON and AJAX are preferred.
• An understanding of Model-View-Controller design is preferred.
• Knowledge of Groovy and Grails is preferred.
• Familiarity with content Management System such as Drupal is preferred.
