Description:  

UC Merced Recreation & Athletics is a member of the Division of Student Affairs. Recreation & Athletics provides a broad range of programs for students, faculty and staff in intramural sports, outdoor adventures, fitness/wellness, sport clubs and intercollegiate athletics.

The Graphic Designer will play a crucial role in publication development for the Recreation & Athletics Department (RAD) through the creation of marketing/publicity while reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics or designee. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for selected RAD publicity materials and for creating promotional materials that align with the goals of Recreation & Athletics.

Position Duties:
• Collaborate with the Recreation & Athletics professional and student staff in producing marketing and promotional material that reflects the mission of the Recreation & Athletics Department (RAD).
• In consultation with the RAD staff, the Graphic Designer will design and produce posters, flyers, calendars, game cards, recreation guides, media guides, additional sports information publications and other marketing material as needs arise.
• Consult on design concepts, selecting appropriate graphics, fonts, paper, color, etc for all marketing and promotional material.
• Assist in maintaining both the Recreation and Athletics Web pages as well as digital signage within RAD facilities.
• Assist in maintaining department’s social media including Facebook and Twitter.
• Projects may also include t-shirt and game promotional item design.
• Meet with supervisor on a regular basis.
• Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

 
Qualifications:   Student will be selected based on their artistic and potential to creat marketing that reflects the nature of the projects and their creative ability.
Additional Requirements include:
• Must possess strong artistic and creative ability.
• Proficient knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop (or similar graphic design software) preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in one on one and group settings.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and balance varying volumes of work assignments and adapt to the changing needs of the office.
• Must have a flexible schedule.
• Must not be a graduating senior. Position is to continue through fall 2017. Summer work is available but not required.
