The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

This position will start after January 1st, 2018. The Chemistry Lab Student Assistant will assist the Chemistry Staff in setting up, maintaining, and cleaning up the School of Natural Sciences' chemistry labs for each week’s experiments, which will involve moving equipment, setting out chemicals and supplies, and cleaning lab benches and hoods. Additionally, the Student Assistant will prepare materials and clean glassware for chemistry labs. The Student Assistant will also help keep chemical and item inventories up-to-date. Experienced student assistants will make solutions. The Student Assistant will need to go through 3 EH&S training courses as well as extensive on-the-job training. The Students Assistants will be available to help Lab Assistants maintaining early morning or evening/night lab sections.

Qualifications:   Obtained a passing grade or better in CHEM 002 or equivalent chemistry course;
Taken and passed other UC Merced chemistry labs preferable, but not necessary;
Available to work in the early mornings or evenings/nights;
Ability to apply learned chemistry concepts to lab work;
Ability to exercise independent judgment;
Ability to take the initiative to follow up on projects or assignments;
Ability to attend to details with high degree of accuracy;
Ability to work well in a group;
Good verbal and written communication skills required;
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work cooperatively.
