The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

Learning Assistants are required to work one-to-one with students and supervise individual projects to be completed by each student. They facilitate small/large groups, work with and guide students through the learning process.

Learning Assistants will provide support for homework as well as for on going literacy work. They will not correct written assignments or reading errors, but develop a framework within which each student can discover and apply appropriate language, reading, and/or learning skills.

Learning Assistants will be required to attend training and on going professional development to serve the needs of clientel, and meet the requirements for tutor/learning assistant certification.

Qualifications:   Good written and verbal communication skills and competence in specific subject area(s) are required.
For Writing Tutors, a high grade in one of the following is required: WRI 10, WRI 110 or WRI 199.

Undergraduate in good academic standing
Cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher
High academic achievement in subject of interest
Open availability for training
Good communicative and people skills
Responsible, punctual, and professional
