The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

Under the Bright Success Center, the Fiat Lux Scholars Program serves a select cohort of underrepresented students at UC Merced. The Fiat Lux Lead Scholars responsibilities include:
• Advise students on academic, personal/social, career and financial concerns in an individual and group basis.
• Develop social, personal well being, and academic programs that reflect and serve the students’ needs and interests
• Facilitate workshops on topics that will assist students transition and help develop academic, personal and social skills.
• Knowledge of campus and community resources
• Empower students to make a successful academic and social transition to UC Merced from high school
• Hold office hours, and engage student using different strategies to build relationships and encourage scholar participation towards meeting semester requirements
• Comply with all UC Merced Principles of Community and UC Conduct Standards
• Maintain good conduct on and off of the UC Merced campus
• Maintain on-line community and announcements for the Fiat Lux Scholars Program
• Serve as a liaison between Fiat Lux Scholars and the Program Staff
• Advocate for the interests of Fiat Lux Scholars
• Ability to use iCatCard Web Services (Recommended)
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:   • Junior or third-year standing, Senior or fourth year Standing
• Cumulative and/or Semester GPA of at least 2.75
• Good student conduct standing with the University
• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of diverse students including first-generation students
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent and sound judgment
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
• Ability to collaborate and work as member of a team
• Effective interpersonal communication skills, including active listening skills
• Ability to use office equipment such as a laptop computer, printer/scanner/copier, projector and fax
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point
• Ability to use Mac/PC operating systems
• Must be able to multi-task and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Must be available to attend Required Training: August 7th-18th, 2017 from 8:00am to 5:00pm
• Must be available to attend two weekly meetings during the 2017-2018 academic year (TBD)
