The University of California, Merced is the tenth campus of the UC system and the first American research university built in the 21st century.

Analyzing local health data and incorporating it into science and health communication content to create
locally and/or personally relevant messages that motivate attitude or behavior change.

Reading and summarizing key scientific articles pertaining to diet and nutrition behaviors and psychosocial factors that affect diet.

Developing the framework for a local news information service by creating a database of journalists, key scientific experts and resources available.

1. Create original news and opinion content that will serve as science communication for diverse audiences.
2. Contribute to the design of experiments, surveys, or qualitative data collection approaches to test
effectiveness of different types of messaging.
3. Program Qualtrics surveys and experiments as needed.
4. Contribute to writing reports and manuscripts from the data that assess the effectiveness of the
communication campaign as well as provide suggestions for refining the messaging or dissemination
5. Provide weekly and monthly activity reports, meeting notes, and reports.

Qualifications:   •GPA requirement 3.0 or above.
•Students must have been enrolled for at least one semester at the time of application.
•Students must be in good standing academically and in terms of conduct before and during the internship.
•Devote 10 to 18 hours per week to working for host unit for both fall and spring semesters.
•Fulfill internship contract requirements and learning agreement.

Attention to detail.
Strong writing skills.
Internally motivated and can-do attitude.
Prior statistical training/experience.
